The Ancient City of Ephesus was once one of the Roman Empire's largest cities and its ruins are some of the best preserved in the world today. Wander through the Temple of Hadrian, the Great Theater and the Celsius Library, all impressive examples of Roman architecture with their ornate carvings. Your guide will explain the intriguing history of each and there will be time for an optional visit to the Terrace Houses.
House of the Virgin Mary
Offering a fantastic panoramic view over Selcuk and its surrounding area, the House of the Virgin Mary is located on a hilltop near Ephesus and is believed to be where the Mother of Christ lived out her final days. Today it is an important pilgrimage site for people of all faiths who come to pay their respects and pray for good fortune.
Temple of Artemis
Built in the 6th century BC and now one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is the Temple of Artemis. Today the ruins of its marble columns lie within swamp land not far from the center of Selcuk and are famed for their ornate carvings.
Built in 1374 by Ali, the son of Mushimish al-Damishki, the Isabey Mosque is one of the most impressive examples of a Seljukian style mosque still standing today. It lies just below the St John Basilica and its beautifully carved marble details and mosaics are a fine example of the architecture of the period.
The Terrace Houses section, located within the Ancient City of Ephesus and dating back to the 1st century BC, are not included in the tour price (15 USD per person entrance fee), but a visit is highly recommended. With beautiful mosaics and frescoes, together with a unique clay pip water and heating system, it offers a fascinating insight into the lifestyle of wealthy Romans of the time, particularly in its oldest building, 'The houses of the rich Romans'. In this section there are over 100 stairs so it is not recommend for people with physical disabilities. Allow a minimum of 30 minutes to visit.
Lunch is not included in the cost of the tour. We will suggest options for local Turkish restaurants and provide ample time for you to have a sit-down lunch.

This tour requires a bit of walking and we suggest you wear comfortable shoes. As it can be very hot in summer months, please bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hats and any other necessary sun gear with you.
For optional mosque visits, you need to bring a sarong to cover your legs and a head scarf for women.
